These smarts are like cell phones. Catastrophic failure? Just take the battery out then put it back in, bro!
But yeah, this car isn’t going to be the daily, it’s way too fragile. Besides, I don’t want to have to worry about future engine rebuilds.
Three Bars of Death in my convertible smart. Perhaps daily driving a project car wasn’t a great decision.
Uggh...today is really just grinding my gears.
Letting the car sit for 30 didn’t work. Aight, now to disconnect the battery.
If I get the transmission working, the car’s going back into storage. It’s probably best not to daily a car that can strand you at any moment. Plus, the 450 engines aren’t the best DD material.

googling “3 bars of death” brings up some Crossfit nonsense. can you elaborate?

no adventure in driving a car you KNOW will make it. However I’ve been driving an adventure-free lexus rx-something today. Quite acceptable.

I’m not familiar with these displays. Is it bad to be full on “A”, “N”, and “R”?

Should the disconnecting of the battery not solve it, try these methods.

That’s a sticker the importer put there so Americans can have an idea of how the transmission works. R is Reverse, N is Neutral, A is Auto Mode. The three bars of death death have no relation to the sticker. lol

Hey - saw one of those Scion IQs the other day and thought of you - any interest in those in addition to your Smarts? I was thinking they might be more reliable? The dude I saw had a rack and road bikes on his...

If I get a city car that’s not a smart, it’s going to be an Abarth 500C. The iQ is fun too, though not on my bucket list!

The “Three Bars of Death” is a gearbox fault. The car becomes immobilized. If you’re lucky like me, it’s just a software fault. If you’re more unlucky, the car has to be towed to the shop and repaired.
